How loyalty works

Stamp cards and points cards — how customers earn and redeem, what they see on their pass, and where your team does the work.

A loyalty card is a pass in your customer's wallet that keeps count of what they have earned. Your staff add to it at the counter with the Walletap mobile app, and the card on the customer's phone updates by itself.

Stamps or points#

You choose the kind of card when you create the template: under Collecting, pick Stamps or Points.

A card can carry both: a stamp card that also shows a points balance in a field on the front of the card. The app then offers both, and in the mobile app's template wizard this is the Both option under Loyalty type.

For a balance that customers spend like money, such as a prepaid card or a voucher, use a gift card instead. See pass types.

From first stamp to reward#

A scan only tells the app which card it is looking at. The result screen shows who the card belongs to and where it stands — Stamps 6 / 10, or Points 120. Nothing changes until a member of staff picks the new count and confirms it, which is what stops a card being stamped twice by accident.

When a stamp card fills up, the app shows Reward unlocked! Staff hand over the reward and tap Redeem reward: the card goes back to zero and the next card starts. A full card stays full until someone redeems it. It never rolls over on its own, so a reward cannot be skipped.

Milestones work differently. A milestone, such as 20% off at the fifth stamp, is claimed on its own and leaves the stamps where they are. Points are spent by subtracting them from the balance.

The full walkthrough is in Stamp and redeem at the counter.

What the customer sees#

On a stamp card, the stamps are drawn across the card's banner image, each collected one in your stamp artwork. A milestone stamp carries its short label, such as 20%. If your rewards have descriptions, the pass details show a Next reward line naming the next reward the customer has not claimed yet.

On a points card, the balance shows in the Points field on the front of the card.

Every change is sent to the customer's wallet, and the card updates a few moments after staff confirm it. The customer does not need to open anything or add the card again.
