Quick start
Set up Walletap on your phone, design a stamp card, let a customer add it to their wallet and give them their first stamp.
In this tutorial you run one loyalty card from start to finish. You design a stamp card for Harbour Coffee, a customer joins by scanning a QR code, and you stamp their card at the counter. It takes about ten minutes and needs no hardware and no code.
Want your own system to issue passes instead? Follow Issue your first pass with the API.
Before you start#
- An iPhone or Android phone for the Walletap app.
- A second phone to play the customer, such as a colleague's. It needs Apple Wallet (iPhone) or Google Wallet (Android).
- An email address you can open on the first phone.
Sign in to the app#
- Install Walletap
On your phone, open
walletap.com/get. It sends you to the App Store or Google Play, whichever your phone uses. Install Walletap and open it. - Continue with email
Type your email address and tap Continue with email. There is no password to choose: Walletap emails you a sign-in link, and the first link sent to a new address creates your account.
- Open the link
Tap Open email and tap the link in the message from Walletap. The app opens and signs you in.
Tell Walletap about your business#
The app now asks for your Business details. These become your account's first company, and your business name appears on the card you are about to design.
- Fill in your details
Enter your Full Name, for example Alex Morgan, and choose your Country.
- Add your tax number
Type your tax number into the optional field. Its label follows your country: OIB (optional) in Croatia and VAT number (optional) elsewhere in the EU. When the EU VAT register knows the number, the app shows your registered name and address and fills in Business name for you.
- Check the business name and continue
Correct the Business name if needed (here, Harbour Hospitality Ltd), add a phone number if you like, and tap Continue.

Design your first card#
With no cards in the account yet, the app opens Let's create your first pass.
- Start the designer
Tap Get started.
- Choose how the card works
On How should your pass work?, check that Loyalty type is set to Stamps. Leave the other choices as they are and tap Continue.
- Design the card
On How should it look?, tap Design manually. Upload your logo, pick a background colour and a stamp, and set Number of stamps to 10. Tap Continue, then Continue again on Business info & links, which is optional.
- Choose how people join
On How do people join?, choose They scan a QR code and tap Continue.
- Check the sign-up page
Sign-up page shows the form customers fill in. By default it asks for a full name, an email address and, optionally, a phone number. Tap Continue, then Continue again on Location, which is also optional.
- Name and create the card
On Review & create, set Template name to Coffee Card and tap Create template. If the app shows plans first, tap Continue with Free: everything in this tutorial works on the free plan.
The app confirms with Your sign-up page is live and shows the card's sign-up QR code.

Share the sign-up QR code#
The QR code opens your sign-up page. Customers scan it with their phone's camera, so it needs no app on their side.
- Show or print the code
Leave the QR code on screen for this tutorial. In the shop you would tap Print, or Share to send it to a printer or a colleague. Copy link gives you the sign-up page's address for a website or a message.
- Finish
Tap Done. You can open the code again any time from SettingsMembersMember sign-up.
Join as a customer#
Now pick up the second phone and act as your customer, Maya Chen.
- Scan the QR code
Open the camera on the second phone, point it at the QR code and tap the link that appears. The sign-up page opens in the browser.
- Fill in the form
Enter a name and an email address and tap Enroll.
- Add the card to the wallet
The page shows the card with Add to Apple Wallet on an iPhone or Add to Google Wallet on Android. Tap it, then tap Add in the wallet.

The Coffee Card is now in the customer's wallet, with no stamps yet.
Give the first stamp#
Back on your own phone, stamp the card the way you would at the counter.
- Open the scanner
Tap the scan button in the middle of the bottom bar. The first time, allow the app to use the camera.
- Scan the customer's card
On the customer's phone, open the Coffee Card in the wallet. Point your camera at its QR code. The app shows the member's details and a Stamps button.
- Add the stamp
Tap Stamps, tap the first stamp and tap Confirm.

Within a few seconds, the card in the customer's wallet shows one stamp out of ten. When all ten are collected, the same sheet offers Redeem reward.
See it in the dashboard#
The browser dashboard is the same account. Open app.walletap.com on a computer and sign in with the same email address. Your Coffee Card is under Templates, and the customer you just added is on its Members tab.
The dashboard does not ask for your business details again. An account that starts in the browser gives them on a one-time screen instead.
If something goes wrong#
- No sign-in email. Check your spam folder. After a minute, the app offers Send a new link.
- Your business was not found. The tax-number lookup only saves typing. A business that is not registered for VAT is often missing from the register, so type the business name yourself.
- No Add to Google Wallet button on Android. Google Wallet passes can only be added from Chrome. The page offers to reopen itself in Chrome; accept, or copy the link into Chrome.
- "Camera access denied" in the scanner. Allow camera access for Walletap in your phone's settings and open the scanner again.
- "Pass not found" in the scanner. The code you scanned is not one of your account's passes. Scan the QR code on the card in the customer's wallet, not the sign-up QR code.
