Walletap is now a Google Wallet Partner

Walletap is now a Google Wallet Partner. Google's partner program recognises companies that help businesses bring their passes to Google Wallet and keep them running well. Walletap is the platform through which cafés, salons, gyms and other businesses issue loyalty cards, memberships, gift cards, offers and tickets that their customers save to Google Wallet.

What is a Google Wallet Partner?

Google Wallet Partner is a status in Google's partner program for Google Wallet. Google grants it to companies that help other businesses issue passes to Google Wallet and keep them working, from the moment a pass is saved to every update after that.

For Walletap, the partnership also means early insight into upcoming Google Wallet features. That lets us prepare for them before they launch.

What Walletap does with Google Wallet today

Everything about how Walletap works with Google Wallet is on the Passes for Google Wallet page. How to send messages customers actually want, and what GDPR says about them, is in the guide Push notifications from Wallet.

What is Smart Tap?

Smart Tap is Google's NFC protocol that lets a reader read a pass from Google Wallet when the customer holds their phone to it. The pass carries a Smart Tap value encrypted for the merchant's key, which that merchant's readers use to read it. Walletap runs Smart Tap on front-desk and entrance readers from terminal providers on Google's list of Smart Tap compatible providers.

A tap of the phone confirms a check-in: the reader gets a real-time answer on whether the pass is valid. When a QR code is enough and when NFC pays off is covered in QR or NFC? How to choose the right technology for your wallet pass.

What changes for businesses that use Walletap

Day to day, nothing. The passes your customers have already saved keep working as before, and you issue new ones the same way. The partner status means Google recognises that work, and early insight into upcoming Google Wallet features means we prepare for them before they arrive.
